Nordheim Court

Nordheim Court

Seattle, WA

The University of Washington had a problem.  At the opening of school's autumn quarter 2001, demand for space in the residence halls was so high that three students were living in rooms designed for two and there was still a waiting list.  The University turned to the National Development Council for help.

Using tax-exempt bonds, NDC constructed Nordheim Court, a single-student apartment complex housing 460 University of Washington students.  Nordheim Court is Leed-certified.

This project was built at no cost to the University.  In the years since it opened, it has averaged 99 percent occupancy each academic year.  A total of $3.6 million has flowed back to the school to help support its housing program.  And, in 30 years when the bonds are retired, the facility will be turned over to the University.
