NDC's efforts to foster investment and
job creation in under served urban and rural areas have historically
been focused at the community level. The need for a national stage
to debate community development issues and impact national policy
has prompted the development of the NDC Academy. In effect, the
NDC Academy marks the merger of the renowned NDC of the classroom
with the behind-the-scenes deal doing of NDC's financial and technical
assistance services to create a public forum designed to improve
the way in which investment and job growth occur in our nation's
low-income communities.
Why a national forum? Without some understanding at the national level of successful community development occurring in local communities, the knowledge gained through those successes cannot be easily translated into positive policy change and new legislation. By highlighting the tremendous dividends the efforts of local communities pay in the form of taxes, jobs and investment, the NDC Academy can establish an ongoing dialogue between local communities and Washington, DC to bring to the fore important issues in the realm of economic, housing and community development.
In addition to a national forum, we develop and conduct training
courses on development tools that build communities. The NDC Academy
provides a special training opportunity for practitioners who
want to learn about new financing tools and get a fresh take on
old ones. The courses are taught with the same skills and real-world
expertise that has made NDC training premier in the field. NDC
Academy training is offered in two formats:
- A 3-day symposium offered every two years offering concurrent
tracks in economic development, community revitalization and
housing development. The last symposium was the NDC
Academy 2007 .
Save the date for the NDC Academy 2009!
May 12-14, 2009

- Regularly scheduled two and three-day training courses, each
looking in-depth at a specific financing tool. For more information
and the schedule of courses, see NDC
